I noticed that you have posted a news article with downloads to a new tool to help gold players. While I must agree and support the protection of Gold players from crashes.. I would also like to see about a protection called v226fGuardian or some sort maybe? Us client players who use v226f for whatever reasons (be it opengl fix patch, or gameplay issues) are also vulnerable sometimes with Gold servers causing crashes. People (including myself) can also argue that a Gold server is "crappy" in a sense as well. I can understand your daily frustations with this common issue, but you and gold players are not alone.
Also, Blacklisting v226f servers (or even Gold servers if you make a v226fGuardian) using an IP protowall also seems rather harsh and a negative approach. If such a tool can be made to just mark a v226f/Gold server as unsafe to v226f/Gold clients I would be more than happy to support that. It still can be useful if a v226f/Gold player can at least gather administrator information on a v226f/Gold server so that if they are willing... can lobby for them to make it a v225 instead.
Besides that, some v226f server hosters have realized the incompatibility issue, and are at least smart/kind enough to put a bogus mismatching Upak.u file so that a client crash at least never happens to Gold players. Just to backup those who host v226f servers that are on the GoldGuardian list a bit with that. :)

I believe that he is focusing on the GoldGuardian for now, but has plans to do a 226fGguardian later _________________ StalwartUK |

I would advise unreal 226fplayers to consider downgrading to Unreal 224v + OldUnreal OpenGL or Unreal 225 with the Glide wrapper. These clients can connect to almost all servers, including Gold ones with UPak disabled.
I certainly can make a similar block list to block known Unreal Gold servers, actually, I already plan to do it. The only problem now is that my Gamespy Arcade has been crapped with commercial shit, so it slows down the work.
I agree that blocklisting is a harsh approach, but I'm out of options. As some of you know, I already mailed many Unreal 226f/Gold server admins about the problem, asking them to convert to 225f; I talked to some in game; I added info to my website but still I get these crappy crashes every day. The best thing would be a highly configurable UBrowser, with indeed the option to mark or hide certain severs. I do not have the knowledge nor the wish to start such a project.
When you want some more options, like manual server marking, you can try Gamespy Arcade. This browser however is full of ads. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

I thought it was possible for 224/225 players to join gold servers with Upak if they had the Upak.u file _________________ StalwartUK |

No, upak.u makes calls to other Unreal system files, and these calls only work correctly if these system files have the Unreal Gold 226 version. You get errors when you just copy upak.u from unreal gold to 224/225. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

Clients with v224/v225 can only join a Gold server if UPak.u is removed from the Gold server's "ServerPackages" array (in other words disabling UPak from loading into memory normaly at start). If that is not done, strictly Gold players can play on a Gold server because classic clients will end up with an "UnrealShare.logo" missing in most cases. |

226fGuardisn is now on my site, but I doubt if I continue it, because 226f users can easily downgrade to 224v or 225f. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

I'm sticking to 226f because I use Direct3D and if I downgraded to those versions my UnrealEd would'nt work anymore _________________ StalwartUK |

To all Unreal 226f client users: I advise you to DOWNGRADE to Unreal 224v or Unreal 225f instead of using Unreal 226f with 226fGuardian. Unreal 224v makes a very strong and compatible client when you use OldUnreal's OpenGL deriver for Unreal 224. This gives you the best possible display quality in OpenGL. You can also use Unreal 225f with Glide. When you have a GeForce or Radeon type of graphics card you can use the Glide Wrapper to play Unreal in Glide mode on these cards. When you have a 3DFX card, you don't need this wrapper because all 3DFX cards support Glide natively.
Unreal 224v and 225v are higly compatible, and can connect to all servers, including Unreal 226f servers and Unreal Gold servers with UPAK disabled.

Would it work with the UPak.dll file? Or is that imcopatible with the original Unreal's Engine (200-226f) _________________ StalwartUK |

The UPak.dll file was only compiled with legend v226gold headers and designed for gold so I doubt it could ever work worth any other version except "maybe" v226f. Each unreal version has their dll files recompiled for their version patch so that stuff shoudn't be swaped. |

Hi all,
were going to add the lists into the blocklist manager (another app on the bluetack site) so you all can export the lists a faster way.
if the person in charge of the lists would come to our forums and make a post on it and keep a thread there for when the lists are updated we can keep them in sync with each other.
thanks

Hi Damaster,
Thank you for your suggestion!
I have some doubts about this idea, because it's only meant for a small group of players who use Unreal Gold to play online Unreal 1 games. Most of the blocklisted servers are maintained by 'newbies' who do not know about the incompatibility problems between Unreal Gold and Unreal 226f, and a few others are maintained by administrators who do not care about the crashes some of the clients get.
Anybody who does NOT use Unreal Gold to play online does not need or want GoldGuardian, so it's probasbly not a good idea to add GoldGuardian to the general Bluetrack blocklist.
In the case I did not understand you as I should, please explain your idea further here.
Also, plz note that I discontinued updates to 226fGuardian (read the news message at http://www.hypercoop.tk)
For more general info about GoldGuardian and the discontinued 226fGuardian: Visit the GoldGuardian page. (deeplink: http://hypernl.altervista.org/goldguardian.htm ) _________________ Alter your reality...forever.
