Recently, I downgraded a copy of Unreal to 225f for use as a server, etc., but I have 1 issue that kinda bugs me, if I were to summon a clip, it looks awful from far away, and then looks good close up, I though it was just the rendering settings, so I tried to make it like my other 226 copy, which if you summon a clip, it looks good both near and far, how would I set up 225f to do the same?

Also, any links to threads about making a server run at it's best would be nice too, I'll be looking for them, I know some of the sites I've looked at have a few things wrong...

Edit: Another issue, in 226, my sound is garbed, but in 225f it's fine... what's up with that? (Sometimes 226 sounds ok, but it gets garbed a lot for almost no reason)

Use 225f for Servers. And eventually 226 for Client. And if it looks awfull from far distance hm. I only have that when i exported a model with UTPT hm..

Type 'Mlmode 0' in Tab or Console, see if it works.

I know to use 225 for servers, and I normally use 226 for joining, but that's not the point here, this is standard Unreal stuff, and I noticed this in single player, so online isn't the issue right now, and that command didn't seem to have any effect on what I'm taking about, try summoning a clip, and walk back from it, if the texture becomes all large pixels, you'll see my issue, and I want it to not have that happen, I'd like to have it be the nice texture all the time, near of far, or at least know how to switch it on or off. And no tips about the sound? Do u think the files got corrupted? I was working fine all last year, etc.

Can you post a pic of it out here? and if you cant just send it to me? And for the sound, my sound often sounds like my stereo tower's damaged. But thats only when i go off from full screen. And when i go back to fullscreen its gone.

^225

^226

Now you can see, and this applies to all textures, the top is from 225, and it looks just like the 226 one if I get close, but the 226 one is always at the same resolution, I want 225 to do the same, how do I do that?

Those pictures look like they where software rendered. If you're using software then you may want to switch to the D3D renderer for 225 and the OpenGL renderer for 226 to get the best visual quality. I recammend visiting oldunreal.com and downloading the multimedia patch (OMP) for the latest visual and sound enhancements too.

Make sure you have detail texture settings turned on and at the highest setting. Enable trilinear or anisotropic (better) filtering and multi texturing for the D3D/OpenGL renderers if used. The OMP file at oldunreal.com comes with a settings manual so that can be a guide for updated renderers as well.

Yeah, I'm using software rendering, but that's all my computer can handle, I have a videocard that only had beta support for 3D, and I don't plan on updating my specs on this computer, I'm buying a new one next year maybe.

So, no one had come up with an answer... so 225 doesn't support this or what? I would think it would, it's not that big of a deal, and I think back when I played on the Mac on an unupdated copy, it was just like the 226 one.

You won't be able to do much on that subject without a new PC, I'm afraid. Guess it's a problem of your video card.

Dude, it's not my video card, both are software rendering, 1 copy on the same computer is configured right, and the other isn't, but I don't know what I did cause it was ages ago, is 225f really that different from 226?

Wow, that must be a very old computer then. But yes, this is where software rendering was made for. If you can't run hardware, use software and you can still play.

However, you may consider to get a newer computer. Even the cheapest computer with cheapest ATI or nVidia video card run Unreal fine when using OldUnreal Multimedia Patch OpenGL.

*sigh* Unreal runs just fine on this computer, that's not the issue, I just want to know how to have the 225 version not have the near far thing on...

It's like no one even reads...

I did not see drgameover saying something about using 226 as server.

On-topic:
Software rendering has very little options to set. You may want to experiment a bit with the SoftDrv.SoftwareRenderDevice options in unreal.ini to see if you can get the quality better, but it looks like it's just a version difference in the renderer. In that case the best option is imo to switch to hardware rendering with OldUnreal OpenGL driver. (OMP)

We are fixing lots of similar problems for the 227 patch. The clip was on the fix list. The problem was when the mesh was originally imported it had some crappy LOD settings used.
