GigaCache is the result of 5 years of collecting cache. It will reach 10 GigaByte within one or two months.
Read everything about GigaCache at the Lab page.
learn some important general things about Unreal Cache at Unreal Reference
The good thing is that I'm willing to share it for the few die-hard Unreal players who want it. The bad thing is that I don't have webspace nor bandwidth for it.
So if you like the idea of a downloadable GigaCache pack, have a fast and reliable web server with plenty of space and plenty of bandwidth, I can upload it in parts.
But before you say yes ;) think about these points:
* When you are in financial problems, forget it.
* Although I don't expect very much players to be interested, don't underestimate the stress this will cause on your web server
* Only do it when you think you can stay online for a while
When I compress the files with RAR, the total size will be smaller, like 5 to 7 GB. But even then the size of this monster is insane.
Because of the file size, it's not very likely to find a host, but maybe it will become reality sooner or later.
Without hosting, GigaCache will remain a dream, and until the time it might become reality i'll just keep it as a personal thing. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

Suggesting that you use BitTorrent for distribution, thereby allowing those who love it so to help keep it alive?

As far as I know, BitTorrent let's users download from other users who are downloading. But since only a small number of Unreal diehards will download it, BitTorrent will have hardly any sources to download from I think.

I don't think anyone would really want this. A lot of it is probably old and outdated. Plus most people just play 1 or 2 gametypes. |

I've been having similar ideas for sometime now (under the name Unreal Cache Project or UCP) but decided not to tell anyone because of the obviously insane file size that such a thing would have.
The main differences between mine and your ideas would be that ANYONE could contribute their cache files to the project, no matter how many files they have or how small they are. Also instead of being one huge archive at one server. The UCP files would be divided and distributed to various Unreal websites, which would be far more realistic and would be another way for Unreal community members to get involved in it.
This so called "distributed download" system would allow any Unreal website with some spare bandwidth and space to get involved. _________________ StalwartUK |

A lot is old, a lot is new. Quite a number of files are outdated. For example, I have probably every public Aura version in cache, many old EDM versions (Can be removed using advanced file search) and beta maps. There are many old files still in use because they are nice. Why would you only play the newest maps?
GigaCache certainly contains some waste in form of old versions and beta's that will never ever be used again. Let's say it contains between 15 and 50% unused files, depending of how many game types and servers you visit.
Than it's still quite usable because it will save you massive time, saves you version conflicts and downloads much faster and easier than downloading individual game files.
But again, GigaCache is aimed at a small group of die-hard Unreal players who play across many game types and servers, and are equipeed with sufficient disk capacity to hold it.
10 gigabyte cache rarred on a decent web server downloads faster than 1-2 GB cache coming from an Unreal server.
Now we are in the age of 80+ GB harddrives, the diskspace is no longer a limit for many. And when you use NTFS you can always use NTFS compression. (recommended) It compresses my 9.09 GB cache folder to 5.64 GB. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

Wow, sounds nice indeed. But I would fear for availability problems of such a distributed system. The chance for downtime increases for every site that contributes. And i don't see how such a distributed sytem could be managed. But when it would ever become reality, I'll certainly contribute with my cache content. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

Hi,
I see the age of this thread, but it's time to revisit this one. There is a clan that has published the 'supercache'. It's 9 files, each about 650MB. I downloaded it from their server
http://newbies.thenerdnetwork.com/np/unreal/SuperCache/
Maybe they would host those files for you. Just add it their already existing collection. It's worth a try. I like the bittorrent idea also. |

Yeah, I know about this site. I downloaded them all and have everything included in my own collection.
But due to changes in the upcoming Unreal 227 I will probably cancel the GigaCache idea. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

I require gigacache to be transferred to my location within the next 24 hours.
The Earth is depending on you.
Good luck. |

Any plans for a public Gigacache have been ended a long time ago. If you still need it, ask it to your (not my) NSA as they seem to have a backup of anything. ;-) _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

Well, the (in)famous GigaCache project. It has been listed as 'end of experiment' for years now. Still players keep requesting a release of it from time to time which I always denied because I simply do not have the resources to host it reliably. But after a discussion at the OldUnreal forums I received a hosting offer by Strategy-(Dog)- of NewbiesPlayground which finally allows me to free the beast.
GigaCache is the largest Unreal cache collection ever released. It has been carefully assembled over the years 2000 to 2016. Unreal Cache files (*.uxx) are downloaded expansion files in a special format for online play, which do not make version conflicts. Over the years I built up a huge collection of more than 30 GB Unreal cache files. It contains all kinds of maps, mods, skins, sounds textures and music from all kinds of Unreal servers. Having a cache like this allows you to connect to almost any server without downloading a single file. No downloads, no lag, no version conflicts.
*** GigaCache has some serious advantages and disadvantages and is intended for heavy users only. Please consider them before you download ***
Download an info at the Alchemist's Lab page.
Thanks again to Strategy-(Dog)- of NewbiesPlayground for providing me with hosting space for this huge download. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.
