MATROX OFFERS SNEAK-PEAK AT UNREAL DIRECT3D®PATCH

Unreal Matrox contest available on the Matrox Web Site

Montreal, Canada, September 24, 1998  - Matrox Graphics Inc. announced today that a special sneak peak of the Direct3D® beta patch for Unreal  the top-selling 3D action game developed by Epic MegaGames and published by GT Interactive Software (NASDAQ: GTIS)  is available for download at the Matrox public web site. The patch offers enhanced Unreal game play for graphics accelerators that support Direct3D®, including the award-winning Matrox MGA-G200 Series. The early Unreal Direct3D® beta patch gives users a sneak peak at Direct3D® performance on Matrox Mystique G200, Millennium G200 and Marvel G200-TV boards prior to the worldwide release of the final patch. Although Epic MegaGames plans to release an Unreal Direct3D® patch that is compatible with all other graphics accelerators in the coming weeks, great performance and compatibility with the MGA-G200 Series has allowed Matrox to release this advanced sneak-peak Direct3D® beta patch for Matrox MGA-G200 users.

“I've been playing with the Unreal Direct3D® beta patch and the framerate and visual quality are superb,” says Mark Rein, Vice President, Epic MegaGames. “I am excited that DirectX® 6.0 has allowed Unreal to run on popular Direct3D® accelerators, like the Mystique G200. It simply looks amazing and plays fantastically! We still have some additional optimization work to do, but are thrilled with how good the early performance is with the MGA-G200 Series.”

Epic MegaGames has been able to take advantage of Microsoft’s robust DirectX® 6.0 technology in developing the Direct3D® beta patch for Unreal. To obtain the beta patch, users need to register at the Matrox site (www.matrox.com/mgaweb). Once registered, users are instantly eligible for one of six Matrox/Unreal prize packages valued at over $300. Prize packages include a Matrox Mystique G200 (8MB), Microsoft Sidewinder® Precision Pro Joystick, Unreal T-shirt, Unreal hat, Unreal mouse pad and Unreal poster.

Unreal
Heralded by Next-Generation magazine as “the best looking game of all time,” and PC Gamer magazine as “the future of gaming,” Unreal offers heart-pounding single-player action; intense multi-play for up to 16 gamers; as well as the Unreal Level Editor  one of the industry’s most advanced, easy-to-use level editor programs that allows even novice players to create their own Unreal levels or customize virtually any aspect of the game itself in “¼” the time of other editors.

Designed for the Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT platforms, Unreal transports one or more players to a beautiful yet deadly planet which, as a result of a mysterious ore has become the “Bermuda Triangle” of space, has entwined alien races from across the galaxy in a battle for survival. Unreal’s visuals set a new standard for realism  water is transparent, flames randomly flicker, moving clouds cast shadow  while dynamic lighting and music changes compliment the on-screen action.

Matrox MGA-G200 Series
The award-winning Matrox MGA-G200 series of accelerators offer high-performance 3D rendering at the highest image quality. The MGA-G200 Series includes the Millennium G200, for no-compromise 2D, 3D and video, the Mystique G200, for powerful home entertainment and gaming with TV-out capabilities and the Marvel G200-TV, the ultimate 15-in-1 graphics accelerator including hardware video editing capabilities. All boards in the MGA-G200 Series come with 8MB of high performance memory (expandable to 16MB) and accelerate real-time 3D rendering of today’s Direct3D® games with superior 3D image effects including Z-buffering, alpha-blending, fogging and texture mapping.
