I've joined the ChatLink network, which is a shared chat channel for Unreal servers made possible with Pcube's ChatLink software.

I think this is a great idea to improve the community feeling beyond the borders of single Unreal servers. However, there also may be some drawbacks like spam and foul language. Currently foul language from other Unreal servers is not being handled. I hope this can be improved later on.

Maybe you could consider hosting your own chat master just for your hyper game servers?

I tend to find it annoying to have my screen flooded relentlessly by nonsense coming from other more lawless game servers. In addition, other servers that are linked may not have the same chat conduct rules, and so foul messaging finds its way onto your game servers regardless of what filtering or policies you have in place. Although it seems you already know the extent of this. If you choose to continue using chatlink on the current master then you may want to make requests to Pcube for better regulation in a future update.

Yeah, I'm considering hosting my own server, but I do like the idea of a global chat channel as well. I already requested a chat filter so I hope it will be here soon.

I'll have to see if this global chat is turning out to be a great way to extend communication within the Unreal community or a channel for Klingons and other morons to spam around. Time will tell.

Excuse me Hyper, but not ALL Klingons are bad. And Zombie, isnt that a bit stupid to host a master chatlink server just for 2 servers?

Regarding your comment about Klingon:

Sure, not all Klingons might be bad and even Packleader can surely be a nice guy. (Hey, I even run his maps) But over the years I've seen many bad behaviour from many Klingon members. If a truly good player is in Klingon, he/she just joined the wrong clan. This clan (or what's left of it) has a bad reputation within large parts of the Unreal community. If a truly good player joins it, he or she immediately inherits the bad feelings so many players have when they hear the name Klingon. No doubt about that.

About ChatLink:

For what I've seen until now it works above expectations. No matter if I'm playing under my usual nick or a random one, the chat is generally supportive to the atmosphere at the participating servers. I still have to receive word from Pcube about the feature requests tho.

Hyper has four unreal game servers running. Players do play on Hyper Crystal Castles and DM once in a while too. Onto your point, chatlink can be nice for merging servers' broadcasts into one large domain, but there are still benefits to keeping a focus or some tradition. Ultimately it's Hyper's decision, and what I suggested was part of my own opinion based on my experiences.

I disagree on Packleader being the only problem or annoyance. I've been in a linked server days ago at a few times, and I've seen a couple players not displaying klingon tags flooding nonsense broadcasts at fast rates being obnoxious.

Hyper has a good point about the Klingon clan and what happens being a member of it. Players who join it or display the tag will have a stigma everywhere they go. A truly good person and player would be better off never associating with the clan name.

Packleader insults everyone he sees with no reason at all. He is banned at most servers. And soon i will ban that moron from my server to.

As expected the current setup of ChatLink has it's issues. I've received complaints about foul language coming from other servers, spam, death messages and an overall surge of messaged during peak hours.

I forwarded the issues to pcube and most of them will be issued in the next version. If it still does not work nicely then I'll probably host my own server. This will instantly fix the issues, but also defeats the idea of a true inter-server chat.

But then your servers will have ChatLink connection only with those servers using your master server. And the whole idea is to unite all servers into one network I suppose.

Plus, my main point, there's no way to use both master servers so server owners will have to decide wether they want your network or Pcube's one.

i recently cut my servers off from the chatlink network cause of all the retards out tehre spamming and shit. i banned the servers that were spamming the

i started my own chatlink master server and your welcome to join mine if you'd like...right now its just my 3 servers that are on it. i banned the servers that were spamming the most for my chatlink master server so u dont have to worry about spam and cruel launguage.

i dont wanna post my IP publicy on here so just look for Da Noodle under coop to get my IP if u decide to join

sorry about that double post there...dunno wat happened...and i cant find a delete button :P

to Mental: I didnt cut ur server off directly...just my servers from the main chatlink server that Jackrabbit ran...and the main person who pissed me off enough to disconnect from chatlink was jackrabbit himself...also his chatlink server went down all the time...wasnt very reliable
