Title says it, I guess. I'm running on normal DSL, 128 up and 1024 down. |

Yes. Be sure you have a fast CPU and use Nephthys to avoid lag. You'll need to configure your server's network settings for the available (Upload) bandwidth you have. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

I guess 1.2 GHz isn't fast then.
My computer is this:
1.2 GHz
768 MB RAM
I'll maybe get an upgrade in a few months.
Hyper, do you remember the server with the huge map called "Stratosphere"? That was mine. Was it very laggy? :P
A few other questions:
Is it very bad to run your Unreal client to join your own dedicated server?
What's the recommended MaxUploadSize and MaxUploadPackageSize on my connection?
If I change one of this settings, will this improve the performance? (Tell me which)
ConnectionTimeout=25
DumbProxyTimeout=10
InitialConnectTimeout=30
KeepAliveTime=1
MaxClientRate=2666
MaxTicksPerSecond=25
ServerTravelPause=4
SimulatedProxyTimeout=10
SpawnPrioritySeconds=1
EDIT:
I just tried opening the server, the pings were pretty stable (90-120), but it still INCREDIBLY lagged! There were hardly any effects showing up, throwing flares was extremely buggy and animations were pretty messed |

New computer, same problems Is it the wireless router's fault?
Now it's like.. an AMD Athlon 2800+ (2.0 GHz) and 1024 MB RAM, and the same connection, and the ping (of other players, too) stays pretty OK, but the animations and every moving thing pretty much lag to hell. :?
And it's the same with the standard settings (MaxClientRate etc.) and modified settings as suggested by the Nephthys manual. |

It is very bad to use the same install as server and client. Here is why: When you join other public Unreal servers, the server technically has the power over the client. With mods a server can read and change settings without asking or notifying you. For example, it can read your password.
That's why I recommend to have two installs: One for your server and one for playing (client). Then you can also use different versions, like Unreal 225f as server and Unreal 226 as client. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

About Tickrate: For years I've been given the advice NOT to change it. The recommendation is to leave it as 20 for a good balance between playability and bandwidth/CPU usage.
