I've searched the forums for this problem, but I found nothing.

Ok, I've tried all the workarounds on the gemdagger page, but I sill don't get one. The only thing I get is an inv item with the icon for a sheild belt. This inv item vanishes if you try to use it or you try to select another inv item...

Can anyone help?

It's a pain, I've had the same problem on several computers (all from the same Unreal CD but patched to 226).

Perhaps its something on the CDs we have?

Problem is included with mod on server, not in your Unreal. There can only be problem with clients, but I had no gemdagger if I remember right when I joined Hyper's server last time and I am using UnrealGold. I don't know how it is now, maybe he fixed it.

Here is the idea of the password security:

  • When you enter the game without a password, you don't get a gemdagger.
(Actually you DO get one, but it selfdestructs)
  • When you join with a password, the gemdagger registers the password with your name and stays in your inventory.
  • When you re-join with the same password, the gemdagger restores your score and verifies your name.
  • When you re-join with no password or a missing one, you will be renamed to cheater and stripped from score and inventory.

Well, this is the theory. There are many problems:

  • The password from the User.ini file is not always readable. The ?password=<password> method might help.
  • There also might be a password at the [Engine.PlayerPawn] section of user.ini. Be sure they match.
  • I recently discovered that slow computers also might cause some problems. For example, only use S3TC textures when you have 512 MB RAM or more, defragement your drive and do not run other programs when you are low on RAM. When the login procedure takes too long you will get problems.

My machine is a Duron 1ghz with 1.5gb of ram, I run Unreal at 1280x1024 with no problems.

I'll try what you've suggested (the matching passwords) once the server gets back up (yes its down)...

Your machine should be fine. I'll restore the server after fixing some settings etc.

In the meantime: Why not try some HyperDM or Crystal Castles?

I'm not a huge fan of DM, and I don't really want to download CC because of my slow connection. Thanks anyhow mind you :)

Hope to get the gemdagger, post back if I do or if I don't

I've got myself a gemdagger.

I always use a Skaarj skin, never thought that it would cause a problem, but as soon as I changed to a human skin, the gemdagger stayed after connecting...

O_o so that's the cause. I'm always a Skaarj.

The PlayerPawn.Password value is replicated TO the server very immediatly after player PostLogin completes. So even if you joined the server using the command-line to set the password it could still fail because the PlayerPawn.Password may not have changed and be replicated causing the stored value at login to be changed again. So as Hyper has said it would be wise to make sure the PlayerPawn.Password value is correct too.

I've tried all the above and it works IF you are playing as a Human. Skaarj (and probably Nali too) won't work.

A good idea for a new version of GemDagger would be support for the non-human player classes.

I have a feeling that it has something to do with Monster Coop.

The MC Skaarj skins appear to be bigger than the default.
