Hey guys,
I was hosting my server a while ago and I decided to host it with
7 players.
now my upload speed is 203k/sec in theory it should have lagged like hell.
but it didn't!!!
all pings were normal now maybe it has to do with neptheys 1.3
but I think it was the pc I was hosting it on here are it's specs(very high)
2x3.06ghz CPU's
1 GB RAM
2 partitions on the HDD(one for playing other for hosting)
and a 203k or 21.4kb a sec upload speed
I think this puts a whole new aspect on how many players lower uploads can hold if you want to see this for yourself here is the screen shot

I've hosted 4 players on 64 kbit/sec. If set up correctly, pings can be very low. But the bandwidth is still very limited. It is certainly not enough if you have a lot of monsters and projectiles going around. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

but the pings are fine....
they never go above 197 even with 7 players
now it may be true that the server is only saying it is that
and that it might be really laggy but I thought pings don't lie, lol
maybe I'm wrong.
what should I do?
should I leave it at 7 players or drop it to 5-6? |

I think you should loower it to 5 or 6, never tune it up to the very limit. The ping can rapidly increase when there are 7 players and the map switches to a map with alot of objects.
You could use the calculator on Hyper's site to calculate what is the best.
Then go a bit below that to make sure.
Regards,

Ping is important, but only a good ping does not make a good network connection. You also need bandwidth. When you set the maxclientrate very low, you can still have a good ping, but then you might have not enough bandwidth to send all the gameplay / action data from the server to the clients. This results in invisible objects: They are there on the server, but because there is not enough bandwidth, the data is never sent to the client.
It gets very annoying when there is not enough bandwidth to send data about monsters and projectiles: You never saw what killed you.
A fairly modded coop server needs around 5000 netspeed per player. If you run standard coop you can survive with a slightly lower setting. Aura weapons with lots of projectiles need much more bandwidth.
Some tech details about the network config can be found here. _________________ Alter your reality...forever.

I only have 2 mods on my server and they are very small
the main one is asgard 2 with a minion a hornet and a manta111x
on the monsterspawn
besides that it is a normal server with a 1 or 2 monsters
in a monsterspawn. |
