================================================================ Title : The Excavation Version : 1.0 Release Date : 6/26/98 Filename : DmExcavation.zip Author : "hunchback" / Daniel Erat Email Address : danerat@mindspring.com Web Page : - Description : a large DM level Where to get this map : ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/unreal/maps Other levels by author : - Additional Credits to : Epic Megagames (http://unreal.epicgames.com/) The helpful people of gameslink.net #unrealed (especially ian) ================================================================ --- Play Information --- Game : Unreal Level Name : The Excavation (DmExcavation.unr) Single Player : No Cooperative : No Deathmatch : Yes Dark Match : No Bot support : Yes Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : No Gameplay notes : 1. Watch out for the elevator in the main room, it can squish you. 2. You can go down the tall elevator shaft that leads to the temple rooms by jumping down along the protruding torches. There is also a trigger at the top that will call up the elevator. 3. The wind tunnel can be used to ascend and descend. 4. Look behind the upper waterfall and on top of the boxes above the colorful zero-gravity area. Known bugs : 1. The wind tunnel is off-limits for the bots. Whenever I try to add a pathnode within its zone, UnrealEd locks up while compiling the paths. Feel free to try to fix it on your own, and if you have any success, please email me. :) 2. Players will have occasional problems when trying to jump out of the river because the sides are banked. Quake had this same problem. Hopefully Epic will fix it, like id did for Quake 2. Usually, though, you'll be able to get out by the third time you jump against the edge. 3. You'll start to drown if you stay in the colorful anti-gravity zone for too long -- I had to make it a waterZone to allow more movement. 4. The loopmover boxes in the anti-grav zone seem to stop moving sometimes. Yet another bug in Unreal... 5. This level's big. If you want to have a lot of action in it, you should probably have 6 or more bots. This is pretty slow on my P2-266, 128 megs of RAM, Monster3D. It would probably work much better on a lan. --- Construction --- Editor(s) used : UnrealEd Beta (and I mean, BETA) :) Base : New level Construction Time : 3 weeks, working on it in my spare time Unreal Design Competition ------------------------- Entered in the UDC under the DM catergory. Date submitted: 6/26/98 Awards ------ UDC Ranking : N/A Snarf's U.M.E rating : N/A Installation ------------ Unzip the the files and place them into your maps directory under the unreal directory. Type in "open " to run the map. Alternatively, double-click the map. Extended description -------------------- It's a deathmatch level, do you really need a story? Well, let me think... Hmm.. Ok, got it. A group of survivers from the ISV-Kran have begun a long trek across the planet. They happen upon an abandoned Skaarj excavation site, stocked with weapons and ammo. An argument arises, so they all start killing each other. The Nali gods enjoy watching the fighting so much, that every time someone dies, they bring them back to life. Author's Notes -------------- This is my first level for *any* FPS since Wolfenstein 3D; be gentle. :) In the near future, I'm going to make a few more faster-playing deathmatch levels (with simpler geometry, so the damn bots won't get so screwed up), a singleplayer level for Myscha's contest, and a 3-4 level singleplayer thing with a lot of scripted / planned sequences. :) Copyright / Permissions ----------------------- This level is copyrighted by Daniel Erat 1998.
